Tenney Lies About Record of Living in the Pocket of Company She’s Championed
Oh no, Claudia – you’ve done it again, you said the quiet part out loud! Wednesday, on Utica’s “Talk of the Town”, Tenney reminded us first that she had gladly accepted donations from Spectrum, and then that she has no problem doing it! Claudia is making our jobs too easy – maybe it’s just better to read and listen to it below:
[Talk of the Town, July 22, 2020, 9:17]
Claudia Tenney: You know, the reason that Charter Communications I believe is the one that donated to me, it was not Spectrum, supported us is because they want a free market. They weren’t asking I mean Charter has nothing to, Charter at the time was not merged with Spectrum in my eyes. At least the deal wasn’t finalized and voted on. I had no idea about that. […] I mean, I have no problem taking money from it.
Well it was already clear Tenney doesn’t have a problem taking money from Spectrum, since they’re already one of her biggest donors. It’s also clear Tenney is lying about her record with the company – Spectrum had merged with Charter in 2016, while she was still in the state Assembly and prior to her election to Congress: she took a whopping $15,000 from Spectrum starting in the years after their merger!
But there’s no quid without a quo: the largesse goes both ways: Spectrum’s profits surged due to a $9.3 billion benefit from the 2017 tax bill Tenney championed, and she also voted to allow telecommunications companies like Spectrum to use and sell consumer’s private data without permission.
DCCC Spokesperson Drew Godinich released the following statement:
“We agree with Claudia Tenney that she sees no problem taking thousands of dollars from Spectrum.”
Meanwhile, Rep. Anthony Brindisi is holding the telecom giant accountable and went after Spectrum Cable to require a federal investigation of their price gouging during the pandemic and is championing a bill to protect customers from hidden fees from their cable company.
