Claudia Tenney Takes Ownership of Jan 6 Insurrectionists, Calling Them “My Supporters”

Tenney admits there are “so many” January 6 supporters in the Republican Party

Fresh off complaining that Democrats are too focused on January 6 and our recovery from COVID-19, Rep. Claudia Tenney has given a wide-ranging interview where she continues to talk about the January 6 insurrection.

In her latest airing of grievances on a right-wing propaganda site, Claudia Tenney lamented former President George W. Bush’s critical comments about January 6 insurrectionists, saying:

“I don’t know why George Bush would get caught up in attacking so many people in the Republican Party, especially my supporters who feel like there’s this career politician cabal that both parties are in it against them.”

On the 20th anniversary of 9/11, Bush alluded to January 6, saying:

“There is little cultural overlap between violent extremists abroad and violent extremists at home. But in their disdain for pluralism, in their disregard for human life, in their determination to defile national symbols, they are children of the same foul spirit, and it is our continuing duty to confront them.”

Despite the fact that the January 6 insurrectionists greeted the certification of the 2020 election with disdain for pluralism, disregard for human life (leaving five dead and 140 police officers injured), and a determination to defile our national symbols (resulting in an hours-long siege on the US Capitol), Rep. Tenney struggles to see why Bush called them out.

“Claudia Tenney is more than happy to roll out the red carpet for right-wing extremists who assaulted the US Capitol,” said DCCC spokesperson Abel Iraola. “Tenney’s comments embracing January 6 insurrectionists as her supporters are a flashing red warning sign of someone who should not be in Congress and is an active danger to our democracy.”
