Cleveland.com: Turner Ad “Questionable Move”

New Ad Reminds Voters of GOP Corruption Scandal Involving Turner-Donor FirstEnergy

Congressman Mike Turner is up with his first ad, attacking Desiree Tims for…a massive GOP scandal involving major Turner-donor, FirstEnergy.

As Cleveland.com reports, Turner has decided to try and tie Desiree to the scandal even though she “has no connection to the scheme, Householder or anyone else involved.”

The report also notes that Turner has accepted $22,000 from FirstEnergy affiliated PACs since 2004.

These ineffective and transparently false attacks are just par for the course for longtime politician Mike Turner but as Baldwin Wallace University political science chair Tom Sutton remarked, it’s probably not the best idea: “’If I were consulting with any Republican candidate in Ohio, the last thing I would tell them to do is try to tar a Democratic opponent with the brush that has already tarnished the Republican Party with the $60 million scandal,’ Sutton said. ‘I would try to bury that as deep as I could.’”

In response to Turner’s flailing efforts to tie Tims to the massive GOP scandal he’s directly tied to, DCCC Spokesperson Sarah Guggenheimer released the following statement:

“Good luck with that.”
