Clinton Visit Highlights Heck & Hardy’s Backwards Views on Immigration

Today, Hillary Clinton will be hosting an event at Rancho High School in Las Vegas to discuss solutions to fix our badly broken immigration system. Clinton’s positive message of passing comprehensive immigration reform – including a pathway to citizenship – will provide a stark contrast to the divisive rhetoric and failed policies of Rep. Heck and Rep. Hardy.

“Throughout this campaign, hardworking Nevadans will experience a contrast between commonsense solutions to fix our broken immigration system and the divisive politics of Congressmen Heck and Hardy and their Republican colleagues,” said DCCC Communications Director Matt Thornton. “Hillary Clinton’s visit today will help to clarify the choice facing voters in down ballot races.”

Just last week, House Republicans held a hearing questioning birthright citizenship. The Republicans welcomed testimony from Texas Law Professor Gino Graglia – a divisive figure known for his offensive and derogatory statements about minorities. While other Republicans have backed legislation to limit birthright citizenship, Heck has gone even farther by saying that only children of U.S. Citizens should become citizens. Heck has also opposed the DREAM Act. Rep. Hardy – who has already established a reputation for offensive remarks – has been an immigration hardliner since his days in the Nevada Assembly. He was a primary co-sponsor of SB 380, a bill similar to Arizona’s extreme immigration law that drew widespread criticism.
