Even though questions continue to follow Brian Fitzpatrick’s potential violation of the Hatch Act, the NRCC today upgraded the brother of Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick to its Contenders List. After Politico reported that Mike Fitzpatrick was making calls on his brother’s behalf well before Brian resigned from the FBI – showing that the two may have been making preparations for the race in violation of the Hatch Act, National Republicans are doing everything to promote Brian Fitzpatrick. Meanwhile, the Fitzpatrick brothers have been largely silent while major outlets raise concerns over the potential violation.
“National Republicans are so desperate to hang onto the 8th Congressional District that they’re embracing embattled candidate Brian Fitzpatrick, who launched his campaign under a cloud of suspicion over a potential Hatch Act violation,” said Jermaine House of DCCC. “Republicans are hoping it simply disappears, but this cloud of suspicion will follow Brian Fitzpatrick until November.”
