Clown Car Pile Up in IN-05 GOP Primary

Two Weeks Before Primary, Republicans Continue to Attack Each Other Due to “Lack [of] Clear Front-Runner”

A new poll from Club for Growth out today highlights the increasingly contentious GOP primary in Indiana’s 5th Congressional District. It shows Club for Growth-backed Victoria Spartz leading the massive, 15-person field with Carl Brizzi and Beth Henderson also reaching double digits.

It’s no secret that this clown car of a primary has gotten nastier as candidates struggle to break out from the pack. In the past few weeks, Club for Growth has begun attacking Brizzi on television for not being sufficiently supportive of Trump and in mail for dodging over $175,000 in taxes. Brizzi, in turn, has attacked Spartz over the source of her mysterious $750,000 campaign loan.

Not to be outdone, Beth Henderson released a new television ad this week pointing out that she was “born in the USA,” a not-so-veiled swipe at apparent frontrunner Spartz.

As a reminder, Spartz has come under scrutiny as of late after reporting questioning how she made her wealth and the nature of her business dealings, including the fact that she “does not list a single bank account on her personal financial disclosure, meaning she is either unbanked or didn’t comply with disclosure rules.”

“Big shoes, red noses, and all the makeup in the world won’t be able to cover up how damaged these Republicans will be after the primary,” said DCCC Spokesperson Courtney Rice. “Between DOJ investigations, hidden fortunes, and a Big Top’s worth of clowns – one thing is clear – Republicans are going to lose in November.”
