Congressman Curbelo, would you like a sticker?

Countless news outlets reported today on Rep. Carlos Curbelo’s desperate efforts to claim the prize for ‘first Republican to mention impeachment.’ Unfortunately, no news outlet had the chance to report on Curbelo taking any concrete steps to actually hold the President accountable.

Why? Because Congressman Curbelo refused to take those concrete steps, including signing onto a discharge petition – currently on the House floor – that would have moved to create an  independent commission. Instead he used his taxpayer funded day to scrounge for credit, going so far as to make his spokesperson seek a correction with a publication that failed to report that Curbelo was, in fact, the first Republican to use the I-word. TWICE.

“Representative Curbelo is clearly more interested in scrounging for credit around his political posturing than actually taking steps to hold President Trump accountable for his campaign’s alleged ties to the Russian government,” said Cole Leiter, DCCC spokesman. “If he wanted voters to consider him independent, Curbelo would have added his name to the bipartisan discharge petition to force a vote on to establish an independent commission to investigate Trump. But in reality, he wants credit for nothing, so Congressman, would you like a sticker?”
