Congressman Hagedorn Shows – Yet Again – Just How Out of Touch He Is

Hagedorn voices support for effort to take food purchasing assistance away from 12,000 Minnesotans

Congressman Jim Hagedorn just won’t stop putting his foot on the neck of working people.

After claiming earlier this year that “Nobody (in America) goes to sleep at night wondering if they’ll be able to feed their families,” Hagedorn said over the weekend that he supports a move that could disqualify more than 12,000 Minnesotans from receiving food purchasing assistance.

According to the Minnesota Star Tribune:

Proposed changes in federal eligibility rules for the nation’s food stamp program may disqualify more than 12,000 Minnesotans from receiving the food purchasing assistance.

…The proposal has raised the ire of state officials, private food philanthropies and food stamp recipients who believe it will keep food from the hungry, especially seniors and children.

…Historically, SNAP has served well over 100,000 children a year in Minnesota, according to the latest state figures. Now 63, Paula Juaire raised two sons as a single parent in St. Paul. She worked at the Fisher Nut Co. but says she made so little that she needed food stamps to feed her children. Juaire called SNAP “a tremendous help.”

The DCCC ran targeted ads in MN-01 earlier this year to remind Minnesotans of Hagedorn’s out-of-touch comments.

“How can Minnesotans trust Congressman Hagedorn to represent their interests when he is so clearly out of touch with the every day problems they’re facing?” asked DCCC Spokesperson Brooke Goren. “Whether he’s making it harder for them to put food on the table or refusing to help lower the cost of health care and prescription drugs, working families can’t rely on Hagedorn to have their backs.”
