Congressman John Katko Votes to Keep Confederate Flag Flying in US Capitol

*A similar release went out to more than 70 other vulnerable House Republicans.

Today, Congressman John  Katko had the opportunity to remove state flags bearing the confederate battle flag from display in the United States Capitol. Instead of voting to remove this symbol of hate – just as South Carolina voted this week – Congressman Katko chose procedural delays and parliamentary games, ensuring the confederate battle flag remains on display.

“The United States Congress could be celebrating with South Carolina over the planned removal of the confederate battle flag – instead Congressman Katko voted to keep it flying in our nation’s capitol,” said Matt Thornton of the DCCC. “Watching the spectacle of this Republican Congress descend into chaos to defend this symbol of hate is yet another reminder of Congressman Katko’s misplaced priorities.”
