Katko Sides With Special Interests By Opposing Consumers First Act
Today, Congressman John Katko (NY-24) voted against key legislation to protect consumers, particularly active-duty members of the military and their families as well as student loan borrowers.
The Consumers First Act, which passed the House over Katko’s objection, will reverse recent attempts to dismantle the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), an agency that had previously returned billions of dollars to millions of Americans, particularly seniors and servicemembers, who had been victimized by predatory financial institutions.
“By siding with corporate special interests and financial predators over everyday families, Katko has made his priorities crystal clear,” said DCCC Spokesperson Christine Bennett. “The people of New York deserve representation in Congress that will fight for consumers and the middle class, but yet again Katko did just the opposite.”
