Given the chance to move forward yesterday with a bill funding the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Congresswoman Barbara Comstock instead decided to place partisanship over security by voting against considering a bill that would allow DHS to continue operating without disruption. DHS is scheduled to run out of funding at the end of the month due to nothing more than Republican political brinkmanship. The Department of Homeland Security oversees border security, port security, and disaster preparedness.
Just this week the Wall Street Journal wrote that Congresswoman Comstock’s Republican plan “seems headed for failure if not a more spectacular crack-up” and the “GOP has now marched itself into another box canyon.”
“Congresswoman Comstock voted to put her loyalty to Republican Congressional leaders and their political games above our national security,” said Josh Schwerin of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “It’s clear that Congresswoman Comstock cares more about keeping her own job than the men and women who keep our country safe.”
