Congresswoman Herrera Beutler Again Putting DC GOP Politics Over The Health Care Of Her District

Herrera Beutler Continues To Fail To Stand Up For Southwest Washington Families

In the face of an unprecedented pandemic and economic crisis, people across the country and Southwest Washington are seeking and supporting decision-makers and leaders who are stepping up to meet the moment.

Meanwhile, Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler continues to put her finger up in the air to test the political winds, and instead of telling her constituents where she stands, she’s keeping quiet on the key issues families in Southwest Washington are facing.

When asked whether she supports the President’s response — or lack thereof — to COVID-19, Congresswoman Herrera Beutler has repeatedly refused to respond.

Then when asked about the Trump Administration’s decision not to keep open the health insurance enrollment period for people who lost their jobs and are without coverage, once again, she refused to take a stand. As reported by CNN, Republican strategists are hoping to avoid litigating the topic of health care in this election; Jaime Herrera Beutler’s silence shows she seems to agree.

But make no mistake: despite her silence, Herrera Beutler continues to back a lawsuit to repeal the Affordable Care Act and “terminate health care” for millions of Americans with pre-existing conditions — including COVID-19 — and strip many unemployed Washingtonians of their coverage. What is her plan to replace it? And what is her explanation for supporting this lawsuit as millions of Americans are losing jobs and their health coverage?

“It’s clear Congresswoman Herrera Beutler continues to put her party politics over the people of her district, by supporting policies that will dismantle our health care system and leave hundreds of thousands of unemployed Washingtonians without health coverage during a deadly pandemic. At the very least, the voters of Southwest Washington deserve to know why, but their representative refuses to stand up for them,” said DCCC Spokesperson Andy Orellana.
