Congresswoman Herrera Beutler Still Supporting Donald Trump for a Second Term

Following President Trump’s refusal to condemn white supremacist-driven violence at the first Presidential Debate, Congresswoman Herrera Beutler tried to make headlines by asking Donald Trump to “clarify” his remarks on white supremacy.

In August, Jaime Herrera Beutler decided to endorse Trump for President, after claiming she did not vote for him in 2016.

Congresswoman Herrera Beutler has repeatedly failed to show independent leadership, and sided singularly with President Trump over the health, safety, and financial future of the communities she was elected to represent in Washington. Congresswoman Herrera Beutler backed the President’s plan to eliminate the Affordable Care Act and strip health coverage from Washingtonians with pre-existing conditions. Congresswoman Herrera Beutler also voted for the President’s tax giveaway to corporations and wealthy Republican donors.

Congresswoman Herrera Beutler’s faux outrage at the President’s tacit endorsement of white supremacy is particularly galling after five years of evidence: the racist birther smear against President Obama and Kamala Harris, his remarks claiming there were ‘fine people on both sides’ of a neo-Nazi rally in Charlottesville, calling migrants ‘animals and rapists’, claiming a federal judge could not fairly try him because he was Mexican-American, mocking the Trail of Tears, spreading anti-Semitic stereotypes, and repeated attacks on women of color.

DCCC spokesperson Andy Orellana released the following statement:

“Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler can mince words however she wants – but she’s made her bed and now she has to lie in it: she’s voting for Donald Trump.”
