Wasserman: DePasquale Is A “Dream Candidate”

“Perry remains highly vulnerable in this recently redrawn seat”

On Friday, the non-partisan election forecaster Cook Political Report cited Democratic challenger Eugene DePasquale’s past electoral success and reputation of rooting out corruption as to why Pennsylvania’s 10th Congressional District is a “Toss Up” in 2020.

DePasquale won PA-10 in his 2016 reelection for Auditor General by two points while Trump carried the district by nine. DePasquale’s impressive fundraising – he outraised Perry by over $60,000 last quarter – coupled with Perry’s “vulnerab[ility]” make this seat ripe for a Democrat in 2020.

Toss Up. Democratic operatives are ecstatic they’ve landed their dream candidate against GOP Rep. Scott Perry, who eked out a 51 percent win against Democratic minister George Scott in 2018. In 2016, DePasquale carried the Harrisburg/York-based 10th CD by two points in his race for reelection as state auditor while President Trump carried the district by nine points on the same ballot.

DePasquale will talk about eliminating a backlog of untested rape kids as state auditor while casting Perry as a Freedom Caucus extremist who gets in the way of addressing the increasingly suburban district’s infrastructure needs. DePasquale outraised Perry $360,000 to $299,000 in the third quarter of the year and hopes to combine Democrats’ gains in the Harrisburg suburbs with overperformance in his York home base.
