Correcting the Record on Curbelo’s New Ads: Bad for the Environment and Immigration

In a round of new ads both in English and Spanish Republican Carlos Curbelo tries to have it both ways on his environmental and immigration record. Curbelo’s attempts to portray himself as a moderate in his newly re-drawn and solidly Democratic district are no surprise, but won’t work.

In his English-language ad Curbelo tries to show off his so called environmental record, saying that “protecting our environment isn’t just a slogan to me.”  But no one is buying it, especially given that his hypocrisy on off shore drilling was exposed a year ago.

And in his Spanish-language ad, where he speaks about his immigration record, Carlos Curbelo forgot to mention his sham Pro-Immigration PAC that the Miami Herald showed actually donates to Trump-like members that staunchly oppose immigration reform. (Side note: Many of these exact same Republicans receiving money from Curbelo’s PAC, like Mark Walker, Barbara Comstock, and Duncan Hunter also have poor records on the environment.)

Try as he might, Carlos Curbelo cannot hide his partisan, staunchly Republican record from voters.

“Vulnerable Republican Carlos Curbelo’s new ads are a sham, trying to fool voters and distract from his real environmental and immigration record based on Republican principles, said Javier Gamboa of the DCCC. “Voters aren’t buying Curbelo’s attempt to cover up his record, and instead they will elect someone willing to stand up for progressive values that protects the interest of South Floridians this November.”
