| On this day in 1965, Medicaid and Medicare were signed into law, two programs that have helped millions of Floridians live longer, healthier lives by delivering quality, affordable health care to generations of Floridians over the last 60 years.
As Floridians continue to see the fallout of Cory Mills and María Elvira Salazar’s vote to cut these two critical programs, today’s anniversary highlights how Mills and Salazar’s cruelty has made health care the top domestic issue for Americans this year, according to Gallup.
Driving this anxiety among the public is the incredible damage caused by Mills and Salazar’s Big, Ugly Bill. Their law is ripping away health care from Floridians and raising medical costs on everyone – all to fund massive tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations.
The impacts are real and Floridians are hurting. Mills and Salazar’s cruel and decisive vote to gut Medicaid are wreaking havoc on their lives:
It’s no wonder Mills and Salazar have resorted to blatantly lying about their vote and refuse to meet voters face-to-face.
ADDITIONALLY: Mills and Salazar’s Big, Ugly Law triggered nearly $500 billion in cuts to Medicare, resulting in likely cuts to funding for hospitals and doctors and higher premiums for seniors. To “celebrate” the anniversary of Medicare, the Trump administration also ended a prescription drug plan that will spike the cost of medicine for Medicare recipients.
