COVER-UP: Vulnerable Rep. Rodney Davis Votes to Protect Critical Jan. 6th Witness and White Nationalist Steve Bannon

Davis’ extreme vote undermines unanimous recommendation from bipartisan Select Committee to hold Bannon in criminal contempt

“All hell is going to break loose tomorrow.”

That’s what white nationalist and key witness Steve Bannon said on his far-right podcast just hours before a violent mob stormed the U.S. Capitol during the deadly January 6th insurrection. But vulnerable Rep. Davis would rather protect Donald Trump’s crony than get the truth about his involvement in the Capitol siege.

By voting today against holding Bannon in criminal contempt for his refusal to comply with a congressional subpoena, Davis has made it clear that he would rather side with Radical Republican Party bosses and engage in a cover-up of the deadliest attack on the Capitol in two centuries than pursue the truth.

The New York Times reported that members of the Committee “believe that Mr. Bannon has crucial information about plans to undermine Mr. Biden’s victory, including conversations Mr. Bannon had with Mr. Trump in which he urged the former president to focus his efforts on Jan. 6.” He encouraged right-wing supporters to “strap in” for January 6th and referred to the violent rally as the “point of attack.”

Central Illinoisans deserve to know: why is vulnerable Rep. Davis covering for a dangerous goon who has critical information about the events that directly led up to the January 6th insurrection?

DCCC spokesperson Elena Kuhn

“Rep. Davis’ latest vote is yet another shameful and embarrassing attempt to cover up the truth behind the deadly January 6th insurrection. If Davis is too afraid to stand up to a far-right podcaster who spews racist rhetoric and incites attacks on American democracy, then he has absolutely no business serving in the halls of Congress.”
