It’s been four days since a leaked draft decision revealed the Supreme Court intends to overturn 50 years of legal precedent and dismantle women’s rights to reproductive health care.
The decision has further sparked fears of undermining the legal foundation of established rights for LGBTQ individuals, as the Republican Party continues their civil rights assault in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision.
Thus far, Orange County Republicans Young Kim and Michelle Steel have been too afraid to make public statements on the dismantling of Roe – despite their clear anti-abortion records: In Congress, Steel and Kim voted against codifying Roe into federal law. Steel went so far as to sign an amicus brief to overturn Roe v. Wade and co-sponsored a federal abortion ban.
Today, a comprehensive report from the OC Register reveals the Orange County Republicans’ cowardice stretches far beyond reproductive rights: Both Steel and Kim refused to commit their support to the legality of same-sex marriage.
