“Crushing:” On Gabe Evans’ Watch, Evans-Backed DOGE Has Tried to Steal $15.7M From CO-08

Evans has praised cuts to cancer research, school lunches, farmland conservation as “right-sizing government”

Gabe Evans’ constituents have lost at least $6.8 million in federal dollars on Evans’ watch since he took office, a new searchable database published by the Colorado Governor’s Office shows.

The Evans-backed DOGE has sought to steal an additional $8.9 million from Evans’ district, but has faced legal pushback.

What does Gabe Evans have to say about the nearly $16 million in total cuts to health care, school lunches, farmland conservation, and more his district has faced since he took office? That they’re about “right-sizing government.”

Talk about out of touch.

DCCC Spokesperson Lindsay Reilly:
“Gabe Evans seems more interested in pleasing Republican Party bosses and billionaire donors than actually fighting for what his constituents need. Coloradans already send more of their hard earned money to D.C. than they get back. They deserve a representative who fights to bring resources back home, not someone who celebrates cuts to health care, school lunches, and farmland conservation.”

Colorado Times Recorder: DOGE Has Cut Nearly $16 Million From Gabe Evans’ District; He Calls It ‘Right-Sizing Government’

  • Last week Gov. Jared Polis (D-CO) published a searchable database of all the federal funding cuts in Colorado.
  • The total doesn’t include expected impact from the budget reconciliation bill… Nevertheless, there are still over $15.7 million in cuts to federal programs in Evans’ district since Trump took office.
  • One of the earliest DOGE actions was to freeze federal medical research funding… a decision described as having a “crushing effect” on Colorado’s health and economy… Among those institutions affected is the University of Northern Colorado at Greeley.
  • In March, DOGE cut the USDA’s $1 billion school lunch program… with the losses hitting rural schools hardest, reported the Colorado SunThe Greeley-Evans School District 6 lost $238,000.
  • DOGE’s attempt in February to gut the USDA, including its Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) field office in Brighton, was initially blocked by a federal judge, but then the Supreme Court allowed all firings of probationary workers.
  • The largest individual program cuts were made to electric vehicle infrastructure — charging stations — in Adams ($2.9 million) and Weld ($1.6 million) Counties. The same counties also have a combined $2.6 million in Homeland Security funding that the state considers “at risk.”
  • That said, the world’s richest man did help at least one CD8 resident. Musk’s political action committee, America PAC, donated $870,000 to Evans’ campaign, which breaks down to about $335 for each of the 2,448 votes that made up his winning margin.
