Curtis Hertel Added to DCCC’s Coveted ‘Red to Blue’ Program

Curtis Hertel will keep MI-07 blue and help take back the House majority

Today, the DCCC announced that Curtis Hertel has been added to the first round of its highly competitive ‘Red to Blue’ program, signaling that the DCCC is invested in providing Curtis, a top-tier candidate, with the support needed to continue building a winning campaign as he runs for Michigan’s Seventh Congressional District.

“Congress needs more people who put politics aside to find common-sense solutions. That is exactly what Curtis Hertel brings to the table. As a bipartisan deal-maker focused on solving problems, he has dedicated his career to fighting for Michiganders. The DCCC is confident Curtis will draw a clear contrast against Tom Barrett, a self-serving extremist, and we will hold this seat as Democrats march to the majority next November,” said DCCC Chair Rep. Suzan DelBene.

Curtis Hertel has always been a trusted and relentless advocate for Mid-Michigan. In the state legislature and as Governor Whitmer’s Director of Legislative Affairs, he led the fight to pass bipartisan bills that cut taxes for seniors and middle-class families, expanded workers’ rights, and secured critical manufacturing investments that will bring good-paying jobs back to Mid-Michigan. Curtis was instrumental in repealing Michigan’s archaic 1931 law that banned abortion, even in cases of rape and incest.

MI-07 is an open seat and was one of the most expensive House races in the country last cycle. So far, Curtis has raised almost $1.3 million in his first two quarters. In 2020, President Biden carried this seat by just a single point, and this November, Curtis will keep this highly competitive seat in Democratic hands.

Red to Blue is a highly competitive and battle-tested DCCC program that arms top-tier candidates with organizational and fundraising support to help them continue building winning campaigns. Additionally, through Red to Blue the DCCC provides strategic guidance, staff resources, candidate trainings, and more.
