DADDY’S HOME: Elon Musk Drops Half a Million in NY-17 to Bail Out Mike Lawler

Gothamist: “Two years ago, Musk’s America PAC spent $1.7 million on Lawler — more than any candidate other than President Donald Trump.”
Elon Musk is back to bankroll his favorite congressman.

New reporting from Gothamist reveals Musk has already spent more than $500,000 to save vulnerable Republican Mike Lawler. That makes Lawler one of the top beneficiaries of Musk’s House spending this cycle, and he’s the ONLY New York candidate Musk’s super PAC is spending on.

And Elon’s just getting started. In 2024, Musk spent $1.7 million on Lawler, more than $1 million of which came in the campaign’s final weeks.

Musk’s bail out comes after Lawler voted to give $80 billion in data center developer tax breaks to companies like Musk’s and gutted New Yorkers’ health care to hand massive tax breaks to his wealthy donors like trillionaire Musk.

“Mike Lawler handed billionaires and trillionaires like Musk massive tax breaks and paid for it by ripping away Hudson Valley families’ health care. Now, daddy’s coming home to bail Lawler out and save his flailing campaign. But no amount of cash can rescue Lawler from his own record of selling out his constituents, and in two weeks, they’ll send him packing for good.”
