Republican Congressman Andy Harris is facing a formal challenge to his medical license after admitting on a radio show that he has been prescribing ivermectin for COVID-19 against the recommendations of nearly every major medical association and expert in the country.
In an interview with The Washington Examiner, Harris conceded the complaint “is in the investigation stage with the board of medical examiners […] There was a complaint based on the Washington Post article.”
He then bragged that he uses “a lot of drugs off-label that are much more dangerous,” without specifying what else he has been prescribing his patients beyond ivermectin.
Harris has been excoriated for falsely promoting off-label use of ivermectin as a safe treatment for COVID-19 — use of the drug which is strongly opposed by the FDA, CDC, American Medical Association, American Pharmacists Association, and Merck, among many others.
“Andy Harris is facing the consequences for endangering his own patients and constituents by treating COVID-19 with ivermectin against all expert medical advice,” said DCCC spokesperson Abel Iraola. “Andy Harris is not smarter than the CDC, FDA, or the American Medical Association, and his medical credentials are rightly being questioned as he continues to double down on his dangerous practices.”
