Over the weekend, Michigan Republican insiders floated the name of the worst possible candidate for Congress in Michigan’s 1st District: Dave Agema.
That’s right, the Ted Cruz-endorsing favorite son of the radical right, who despite being censured this year by the Republican National Committee over a “hateful” rant on social media (which called LGBT people “filthy,” questioned whether Muslims could make positive contributions to society, and referenced a white supremacist magazine) lately has been swamped with calls from Republican insiders, begging him to run for Congress.
“Dave Agema getting the Republican nomination would be the worst possible news for Michigan Republicans,” said DCCC spokeswoman Sacha Haworth. “Agema’s extreme ideology and fondness for broadcasting intolerant opinions on Facebook will only contribute to a bloody, expensive, and drawn-out battle on the Republican side.”
