Looks like some unpopular votes in Washington have landed Congressman David Joyce in trouble back home: local Tea Party darling Mark Lynch just gave word he’s pursuing another bid to unseat the two-term incumbent.
With shady outside money likely to pour in for Lynch from the Koch brothers and the Tea Party, there’s every reason to believe Joyce is in for another bloody million-dollar primary battle.
But it doesn’t look like Joyce is up for the fight: POLITICO reported this morning that a PAC supporting Joyce begged the Koch brother-backed Club for Growth PAC for a truce. And this proxy war aside, it looks like Joyce is having trouble holding onto his cash – last quarter he spent nearly as much as raised.
“Congressman Joyce is in for a major and costly fight to defend his seat in a competitive district while also trying to fend off attacks from his own party,” said DCCC spokeswoman Sacha Haworth. “It just goes to show that with all the Republican dysfunction and infighting, the right hand can’t tell what the even-further right hand is doing.”
