| David Valadao has found a new political strategy this week: Let the people go hungry.
Starting November 1st, federal food aid will stop going to the American people because Republicans refuse to use emergency funds set aside by Congress for food assistance – effectively cutting off all federal funding for SNAP benefits.
While 5,380,000 Californians are at risk of losing SNAP benefits that help them put food on their families’ tables because Republicans don’t want to spend the money – even though it’s available – Valadao is refusing to get back to work.
REMINDER: Valadao already voted for the largest cuts to SNAP in history earlier this year, gutting food assistance for more than 60,000 households in his district – where 1 in 4 families rely on these benefits every month, and forcing Californians to pay more for their groceries. Now, he is doubling down on his cruelty and holding this key program hostage that feeds Californians and keeps food affordable.
Valadao may be feigning concern on social media that “time is running out…before vulnerable families are left struggling to put food on the table” – but his actions prove he doesn’t care about actually helping Californians.
DCCC Spokesperson Anna Elsasser:
“David Valadao is on vacation, and he refuses to lift a finger to help Californians who are struggling with the cost of groceries. Californians will remember Valadao’s cruelty next November.” |
