David Valadao Stumbles and Won’t Defend Birthright Citizenship

Last week, we asked David Valadao whether he supports Donald Trump’s deeply unpopular and unconstitutional plan to end birthright citizenship.

After previously dodging the implications on similar rulings, David Valadao was pressed again in a new interview:

INTERVIEWER: “So you do support the president?

VALADAO: *Nervously laughs* “I support …making some changes because [birthright citizenship] is being exploited”

Valadao’s refusal to reject this extreme proposal is disqualifying. The American people overwhelmingly oppose ending birthright citizenship, according to recent surveys.

DCCC Spokesperson Anna Elsasser
“If there were an Olympic sport for dodging, David Valadao would be a gold medalist. When it comes to defending the Constitution and the families in his district, he won’t say no to Trump – and that says everything voters need to know.”

REMINDERTrump’s executive order would strip citizenship from children born in the United States unless a parent is a citizen or permanent resident, a direct attack on the 14th Amendment and a policy that lower courts have already blocked.
