David Valadao Votes to Protect Trump’s Cost-Raising Tariffs

Despite Trump’s sweeping tariffs costing average American household $1,000 more per year, Valadao still supports them

Last night, David Valadao voted to shield Donald Trump from Congressional oversight on his sweeping, reckless tariffs that are raising costs for Californians.

The pivotal vote comes as a new report from the Tax Foundation found Trump’s tariffs cost the average American household $1,000 last year. The cost is expected to rise in 2026 to $1,300 if existing tariffs that House Republicans voted on today stay in place.

This isn’t the first time Valadao voted to rubber stamp Trump’s sweeping tariffs. In September of 2025, Valadao and Republicans voted to protect price-hiking tariffs, after doing the same thing in March of 2025. Last night’s vote would have shielded oversight until the Summer of 2026.

DCCC Spokesperson Anna Elsasser:
“David Valadao has been caught dead-to-rights on voting to raise costs for hardworking families. He pledged to lower the cost of living on the campaign trail but has done the exact opposite. Promises made, promises broken.”
