David Valadao Votes to Shut Down Government, Risk Americans’ Health and Pay

Democrats fund government and vital programs, with no help from Valadao

Despite GOP leaders whipping against the resolution, the House passed a continuing resolution to keep the government open, preventing a laundry list of problems for American families.

Had David Valadao gotten his way and the government shut down:

  • Government programs that issue tax refunds and guarantee children are fed would be at risk

  • New applications for Social Security and Medicare might not be processed for America’s seniors

  • FEMA’s ability to respond to emergencies like Hurricane Ian could be hindered

  • And hundreds of thousands of federal employees would be put on unpaid furlough

On top of ensuring our government stays open, the continuing resolution will help Ukraine fight back against Putin’s aggression, address the water crisis in Mississippi and address damage from a wildfire in New Mexico.

“Once again, David Valadao is showing Californians that he would rather play politics than govern,” said DCCC spokesperson Marcus W. Robinson. “Had Democrats not been in charge and Valadao had his way, families would have faced the brunt of the GOP’s cowardly lack of leadership.”
