Will the Real Rodney Davis Please Stand Up?
After refusing to publicly say whom he’ll support for president – despite serving as Trump’s Illinois Campaign Co-Chair – Congressman Rodney Davis is continuing his hypocriful election year political pandering by touting his disastrous health care record. But Davis can’t hide his long record of voting to gut protections for pre-existing conditions and make health care more expensive.
Here are the facts:
- Davis has voted 11 times to repeal the Affordable Care Act, which guarantees young people can stay on their parent’s insurance until age 26 and that people with pre-existing conditions like asthma or a pregnancy won’t be charged more or kicked off their insurance.
- Davis voted against defending the Affordable Care Act in court as recently as last year.
- Davis voted for the failed, purely partisan Republican health bill (the AHCA), calling it “must-pass legislation.” This bill would have gutted protections for 282,500 Illinoisans in the 13th District with pre-existing conditions, imposed an age tax, and made health care less accessible and more expensive for Illinoisans.
- Davis voted for the GOP tax plan that the administration admitted was intended to repeal the ACA, which would end health care protections for pre-existing conditions.
- BONUS: Davis has already been called out for misleading voters about his abysmal health care record.
“This is just more election year political pandering from Congressman Davis meant to distract voters in Central Illinois from his actual record. If Davis wants to talk about health care, he should be prepared to run on his *entire* record of years of voting to gut protections for people with pre-existing conditions, not just the symbolic votes he takes when facing the toughest election of his life,” said DCCC Spokesperson Courtney Rice.
