DC Establishment Republicans: Anybody But Tenney

NRCC Undercuts Tea Party “Frontrunner” Claudia Tenney in NY-22

Ouch. NY-22 congressional candidate and Tea Party “frontrunner,” New York State Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney, got the cold shoulder from establishment Republicans earlier today.

Tenney was left off the NRCC’s 2nd round of candidates named to their “Young Guns” program that supports candidates running in competitive congressional seats.

Tenney surprised observers last cycle when she nearly knocked off incumbent House Republican (and now retiring) incumbent Richard Hanna in a bitter-fought primary, falling short by less than a couple thousand votes despite being “drastically outspent.”

She is now being considered a “frontrunner” in this year’s GOP primary.

“DC establishment Republicans are sending a clear message in New York’s 22nd district: anybody but Tenney,” said Bryan Lesswing of the DCCC. “What do Claudia Tenney and her conservative base supporters think about DC establishment Republicans trying to undercut her campaign?”
