Scholten Added to Highly Competitive Red to Blue Program as Polling Shows Tight Race in MI-03
Today, DCCC Chairwoman Cheri Bustos announced that MI-03 Democratic candidate Hillary Scholten will be added to the highly selective Red to Blue program – in further recognition of the Democrats’ expanding House battlefield heading into November 2020.
Scholten has earned a spot on the DCCC’s Red to Blue program by surpassing aggressive goals for grassroots engagement, local support, campaign organization, and fundraising. Beyond Hillary’s demonstrated ability to build a winning campaign infrastructure, she has a strong record of service, an authentic message that connects with voters in her district, and deep ties to the communities she aims to serve.
“As a woman of deep faith, Hillary Scholten has dedicated her life to advocating for families – including her time as a civil rights attorney during the Obama Administration. Now she’s running for Congress to ensure that her community has access to affordable health care, a quality education, and clean drinking water,” DCCC Chairwoman Cheri Bustos said. “With Hillary’s deep roots in West Michigan, her strong campaign and an open seat, momentum is on Hillary’s side. I look forward to working with her in Congress next year.”
The race in MI-03 is highly competitive. Polling conducted by the DCCC shows a generic Democrat leading a generic Republican by two-points. Additionally, internal campaign polling from earlier this month shows Scholten leading one Republican challenger and tied with another, and former VP Biden leading President Trump 49-44%.
