| Today, the DCCC is expanding House Democrats’ Districts in Play for the 2026 election cycle to include Kansas’ Second Congressional District, signaling Democrats’ readiness to reclaim the House majority by widening the battlefield and working to defeat Derek Schmidt.
The DCCC’s Districts in Play are competitive districts held by vulnerable Republicans across the country that will determine the House Majority.
The addition of KS-02 to the DCCC’s Districts in Play sends a clear message that Democrats know Kansas voters are souring on Schmidt’s wildly unpopular record of raising costs, allegations of corrupt profiteering, and attacks on working families.
“Derek Schmidt is one of the most unimpressive freshmen whose shameful record speaks for itself. Schmidt has done nothing but kick Kansans off their health insurance, take hard-earned money from working families to fund tax breaks for billionaires, and support reckless foreign wars that have skyrocketed costs. Kansans are fed up with Schmidt’s billionaires-first agenda and are ready to elect someone who will fight for them,” said DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene.
Governor Laura Kelly won this district in both 2018 (by nearly 7 points) and 2022 in her run against Schmidt. Democrats have consistently outperformed in special elections this cycle, further proof that we have a path to victory this year to unseat Schmidt and win KS-02. |
