DCCC Adds NC-09 To Districts In Play As Democrats Expand Battlefield for 2026 Midterms

DCCC’s 2026 offensive target list grows to include Richard Hudson as North Carolinians sour on higher costs, less health care, and D.C. corruption

Today, the DCCC is expanding House Democrats’ Districts in Play for the 2026 election cycle to include North Carolina’s 9th Congressional District, signaling Democrats’ readiness to reclaim the House majority by widening the battlefield and working to defeat Richard Hudson.

The DCCC’s Districts in Play are competitive districts held by vulnerable Republicans across the country that will determine the House majority.

NC-09’s addition to the DCCC’s Districts in Play sends the clear message that Democrats know North Carolina voters are souring on Hudson’s wildly unpopular record of raising costs, attacking affordable health care, and hurting working families.

“Voters know Richard Hudson is responsible for House Republicans’ disastrous anti-working family platform crushing North Carolinians. A protector of corruption, and self-interested Republicans at the expense of North Carolina’s working families, Hudson does not work for this community. This November, voters are going to show him the door and elect real leadership focused on fighting for them, not more political power,” said DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene.

Democrats’ consistent overperformance in special elections this cycle is further proof that we have a path to victory this year to unseat Richard Hudson and win NC-09.
