DCCC Adds NY-01 To Districts In Play As Democrats Expand Battlefield for 2026 Midterms

DCCC’s 2026 offensive target list grows to include Nick LaLota as New Yorkers sour on higher costs, less health care, and D.C. corruption

Today, the DCCC is expanding House Democrats’ Districts in Play for the 2026 election cycle to include New York’s First Congressional District, signaling Democrats’ readiness to reclaim the House majority by widening the battlefield and working to defeat LaLota.

The DCCC’s Districts in Play are competitive districts held by vulnerable Republicans across the country that will determine the House majority.

NY-01’s addition to the DCCC’s Districts in Play sends the clear message that Democrats know Long Island voters are souring on LaLota’s wildly unpopular record of raising costs, attacking affordable health care, and hurting working families.

“Nick LaLota is everything Long Islanders hate about Washington: a rubber-stamp for the most extreme corners of his party at the expense of the working families he was elected to serve. LaLota has voted to gut Long Islanders’ health care to pay for tax breaks for billionairesprotected reckless tariffs that are raising costs on everything, and greenlit a reckless war of choice with Iran. Suffolk families are sick and tired of Washington politicians like LaLota who enable corruption while doing nothing to make their lives better, and the DCCC is prepared to make sure they elect a representative in November who will finally put them first,” said DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene.

Democrats’ consistent overperformance in special elections this cycle is further proof that we have a path to victory this year to unseat Nick LaLota and win NY-01.
