DCCC Adds SC-01 To Districts In Play As Democrats Further Expand Battlefield for 2026 Midterms

DCCC’s 2026 offensive target list grows to include the open SC-01 as South Carolinians sour on Republicans’ record of gutting health care and raising costs

Today, the DCCC is expanding House Democrats’ Districts in Play for the 2026 election cycle to include SC-01, signaling Democrats’ readiness to reclaim the House majority by widening the battlefield and working to flip this district.

The DCCC’s Districts in Play are competitive districts held by vulnerable Republicans across the country that will determine the House Majority.

The First District’s addition to the DCCC’s Districts in Play sends the clear message that Democrats know South Carolina voters are souring on Republicans’ wildly unpopular record of raising costs, attacking affordable health care, and hurting working families.

Statement from DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene:
“House Republicans, including Nancy Mace, have seen the writing on the wall and are  abandoning their House seats in droves. They are finally waking up to what the DCCC has known all along – Democrats are on the offensive and we’re taking the fight to Republicans everywhere, including South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District. As Republicans continue to push their failing agenda that leaves everyday South Carolinians behind, Democrats are going to deliver real leadership to the Lowcountry this November.”

Democrats’ consistent overperformance in special elections this cycle is further proof that we have a path to victory this year in SC-01.

Additionally, the DCCC has launched nominee fund pages, providing grassroots donors the ability to contribute now to the eventual Democratic nominee in Districts In Play.
