DCCC Adds To Its House Battlefield, Names Second-Round Of Candidates To Coveted Red To Blue Program

Colorado State Representative Yadira Caraveo, Nebraska State Senator Tony Vargas Named To DCCC Red To Blue Program

Today, the DCCC announced two additions to its Red to Blue Program for the 2022 cycle, Colorado State Representative Yadira Caraveo running in CO-08 – a new seat created after the constitutional redistricting process – and Nebraska State Senator Tony Vargas running in NE-02, where he’ll face out of touch Republican Congressman Don Bacon this fall.

“Yadira and Tony are the kind of public servants American families can trust to deliver for them in Washington,” said DCCC Chairman Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney. “We’re fired up about the folks stepping forward to fight for families by lowering costs, creating good paying jobs, and advocating for a more just country. We’ve got a strong team that is going to help us hold our House majority and I’m glad to have Yadira and Tony in the fight to protect our progress for the American people.”

DCCC adds candidates to its Red to Blue program after hitting significant benchmarks related to overall campaign infrastructure, fundraising, and on the ground engagement. The program arms top-tier candidates with organizational and fundraising support, strategic guidance, staff resources, candidate training and more.

About DCCC’s New Red To Blue Program Candidates:

  • CO-08: Colorado State Representative Yadira Caraveo is a passionate pediatrician and accomplished legislator. Born into a working-class family that relocated to Colorado from a small town in Mexico, Yadira’s family values hard work and helping others. She’s spent a career advocating for workers rights with SEIU and chose a career providing healthcare in underserved communities. She saw the systemic challenges families were facing and won a seat in the Colorado legislature where she could help fix our broken healthcare system. In the legislature, Yadira successfully led the fight to codify Roe v. Wade into Colorado state law. Yadira is the voice Colorado families deserve fighting for them in Washington. She still resides in Adams County, Colorado where she was raised.

  • NE-02: Nebraska State Senator Tony Vargas has spent his entire career fighting for Nebraska families, first as an educator, school board member and now as a state legislator. Coming from humble beginnings, Tony knows first hand the struggles that working families face. He’s dedicated his career to improving our schools and expanding access to healthcare, and he’ll bring that commitment to Washington to fight for Nebraska. He resides in Omaha with his wife Lauren, where they are raising their two young kids, Ava and Luca.
