DCCC Adds TX-09 To Districts In Play As Democrats Expand Battlefield for 2026 Midterms

DCCC’s 2026 offensive target list grows to include TX-09 as Texans sour on higher costs, less health care, and Trump’s chaos

Today, the DCCC is expanding House Democrats’ Districts in Play for the 2026 election cycle to include Texas’ Ninth Congressional District, signaling Democrats’ readiness to reclaim the House majority by widening the battlefield and working to win a Republican-gerrymandered seat.

The DCCC’s Districts in Play include competitive open seats across the country that will determine the House Majority.

The addition of TX-09 to the DCCC’s Districts in Play sends a clear message that Democrats know Texas voters are souring on DC Republicans’ wildly unpopular record of raising costs, standing by chaos and corruption, and unrelenting attacks on working families.

“This cycle, Republicans conspired to redraw the Texas congressional map in an unprecedented mid-decade redistricting to steal more seats. It is backfiring. New polling shows that this Trump +20 district is in play as Texans grow more frustrated with skyrocketing grocery prices, reckless foreign wars, and an unaccountable administration that is wreaking havoc in our communities. They’re fed up with Republicans and their billionaire agenda that’s making life unaffordable for their families. Texans are ready for change,” said DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene.

Despite this now-open, majority-Latino seat being drawn to be an easy pickup for Republicans in their mid-decade gerrymander, Trump’s super PAC has been forced to commit to spending to prop up the GOP nominee. Under the new lines, both Beto O’Rourke and the Democratic House candidate in 2018 would have won the district. Democrats’ victories in special elections across Texas this cycle have helped to put TX-09 squarely in play.
