DCCC and Reproductive Freedom for All Address Alabama Court Decision Impacting IVF in Joint Press Call

Negative Impacts On IVF Treatment Are In Line with House Republicans’ Continued Efforts to Continue Restricting Reproductive Care

Today, DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene and Reproductive Freedom for All (RFFA) President and CEO Mini Timmaraju held a press conference to discuss the recent Alabama Supreme Court decision restricting reproductive freedom, which subsequently caused the state’s largest hospital and additional fertility clinics to pause IVF treatments. The joint press call focused on the negative impacts of these restrictions and similar efforts by House Republicans to restrict such care.

DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene:
“In this election, we’re fighting for our rights, our freedoms, and our families, yet Republicans keep making clear that they’re willing to do anything to rip those away. House Republicans continue to further their agenda to control women’s bodies and women’s choices at every turn, including legislation that would double down on the Alabama court’s ruling by banning both IVF and abortion nationwide. The DCCC remains fully committed to supporting candidates who will stand up for our freedoms and our families, and holding Republicans accountable for doing the opposite with their extreme anti-abortion stances. Come November, we’ll take back the House of Representatives to enshrine the protections of Roe once and for all.”

RFFA President and CEO Mini Timmaraju:
“What we saw in Alabama is not an isolated incident. The GOP has worked for decades to push through policies like this in red and blue states alike. Republican politicians don’t care about popular opinion or democracy. They don’t care about the health and well-being of the people they are supposed to be showing up to represent. What they care about is amassing as much power and control as they can, no matter the costs—even if that cost is somebody’s freedom to grow their family or even somebody’s life.”
