Today, the DCCC announced that Don Davis (NC-01), Wiley Nickel (NC-13), and Jeff Jackson (NC-14) have been added to its competitive ‘Red to Blue’ program, which arms top-tier candidates with organizational and fundraising support to help them continue to develop strong campaigns and win in November.
DCCC Spokesperson Monica Robinson
“North Carolinians deserve better than the toxic extremism they’ve gotten from MAGA Republicans. This slate of Democratic candidates — Don Davis, Wiley Nickel, and Jeff Jackson — represent the best of their communities and will fight for a strong economy, good-paying jobs, affordable health care, and the integrity of our vote and our democracy. Every one of them is battle-tested and knows how to run a winning campaign in North Carolina. The DCCC looks forward to working alongside these champions from now until November and sending them to Congress this fall.”
Learn more about our all-star Red to Blue candidates in North Carolina:
Don Davis (NC-01) has a public servant’s heart, a resolute work ethic, and a fighting spirit that will serve North Carolina families well in Congress. As an Air Force officer, small-town mayor, and minister, Don has dedicated his life to serving his neighbors, and he’s delivered on everything from expanding rural health care to investing in our kids’ educations. Now he’s running against MAGA Republican Sandy Smith, an extreme conspiracy theorist who has been accused of a pattern of domestic violence toward her family. Under new district lines, voters in NC-01 have consistently supported Democratic candidates up and down the ballot, including retiring incumbent Rep. G.K. Butterfield who has endorsed Don to be his successor.
Wiley Nickel (NC-13) is a father, husband, criminal defense attorney, and state senator who has dedicated his life to fighting for North Carolina’s working families. At a young age, Wiley Nickel saw firsthand how a health care crisis can shake a family when he lost his father to lung cancer as a high schooler, an experience that launched him into public service. Now he’s taking on Bo Hines, a 26-year-old political opportunist and megalomaniac pushing a toxic MAGA agenda. Recent DCCC polling shows Wiley Nickel leads Bo Hines by 2 points in this fast-growing, heavily suburban district that is quickly trending Democratic.
Jeff Jackson (NC-14) has always put his community first — as a veteran who enlisted after September 11th, a former assistant district attorney, state legislator, and current Major in the Army National Guard. Now, Jeff is stepping up again as the Democratic candidate for Congress in North Carolina’s newly-created 14th Congressional District. Running against Jeff Jackson is Pat Harrigan, a firearms manufacturer who would be a rubber stamp for the Republican Party that is trying to ban abortion throughout the country, opposed infrastructure investments and good-paying jobs, and voted against COVID-19 relief for small businesses and families. Democrats hold an almost 8-point voter registration advantage over Republicans in the new NC-14.
All three candidates are ready to hit the ground running and take on their toxic, extreme MAGA Republican opponents, and voters will send them to Congress this November.
