Today, the DCCC announced additions to its 2022 Frontline and coveted Red to Blue program, expanding its bench of Democrats who will help maintain the Democratic Majority.
Following his ground-shaking victory in NY-19’s special election, Congressman-elect Pat Ryan has been added to the DCCC’s Frontline program as he seeks re-election in the newly drawn NY-18 congressional district. The DCCC is also adding Kirsten Engel (AZ-06), Robert Zimmerman (NY-03), and Josh Riley (NY-19) to its Red to Blue program.
“Voters are ready to re-elect Democratic Majorities because they know Democrats will fight for their pocketbooks, children, and freedoms,” said DCCC Chairman Sean Patrick Maloney. “While Republicans run on a MAGA agenda of banning abortion nationwide, attacking law enforcement for doing their jobs, and lying to voters to stoke fear and gain power for themselves, Democrats are doing the work, putting People over Politcs as they fight for everday people and freedoms, work to drive down costs, and pass historic legislation that is making a positive impact in peoples lives.”
Congressman-Elect Pat Ryan Added to Frontline Program:
Pat Ryan is a decorated combat veteran, small businessman, and former Ulster county executive who was just elected to represent New York’s 19th Congressional District in a competitive August special election. Ryan will now pivot to run in and win the newly-drawn NY-18 district. Ryan has built his profile nationally and locally following his victory and he maintains a message of unity, freedom, and fighting for everyday families in the Hudson Valley. The newly drawn NY-18 voted for President Biden by nearly five points and The Cook Political Report rates the district “Lean Democratic.”
Red to Blue Program Gains Three Strong Candidates in Arizona and New York:
Kirsten Engel (AZ-06)
Kirsten Engel is an environmental advocate, lawyer, and former state legislator running to keep Arizona’s 6th District blue. As a state legislator Kirsten took on some of the toughest battles – from fighting to protect our environment and safeguard clean water, to holding the line against Republican attacks on abortion rights, to investing in Arizona’s public schools and universities. Kirsten also worked for the EPA, and has filed an amicus brief in the very first case that the U.S. Supreme Court recognized greenhouse gas emissions contributed to climate change. The newly redrawn AZ-06 was won by President Biden in 2020. Kirsten’s opponent is a hypocritical, Republican rubber stamp, refused to denounce white nationalist and violent rhetoric, and supports banning abortion.
Josh Riley (NY-19)
Josh is a fifth-generation Upstate New Yorker who got his start in public service in Washington before graduating from law school. Josh then served as General Counsel to Senator Al Franken on the Senate Judiciary Committee. There, despite partisan gridlock, Josh ushered two bills through the legislative process — one that created new rights for survivors of domestic violence, and the other to provide new funding for addiction treatment and mental health programs. As an attorney, Josh has fought for health care reform, stronger campaign finance laws and helped veterans fight through red tape to receive the benefits they deserve. Josh’s opponent is an anti-choice extremist who is accused of skirting FEC laws and inappropriately using taxpayer funds to lease a luxury vehicle.
Robert Zimmerman (NY-03)
Robert Zimmerman is a small business owner and long-time Long Island activist, a leading voice in advocating for Planned Parenthood, LGBTQ+ rights, healthcare access, gun violence prevention, and tackling the climate crisis running to keep NY-03 blue. This is a long-time Democratic seat that is now a Republican target, but Robert’s experience and commitment to his community will lead him to victory against his extreme insurrection-attending, anti-choice Republican opponent.
