Bloomberg Balance of Power: ‘No Moderates Left’ in GOP Says DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene

“[L]et’s be very clear, folks are angry across the country. They’re struggling with high prices, struggling with health care being gutted. They see the corruption happening across the country. Our secret sauce is having great candidates who are running all across the country in these districts. They’re what’s going to help create this change. So, we take nothing for granted. I’m confident because we will take back the majority tomorrow night.”

“We have a map of 92 [districts], but maybe some things to look at that could be indicators, KY-06, since polls closed earlier in Kentucky: this is a pickup opportunity for us, we have Zach Dembo who has been running a strong campaign, he’s going to flip a seat in Kentucky. That’s a Trump +15 district. Then you go to some of these places where they gerrymandered to try to pick up new seats for Republicans, and it’s backfiring. Places like South Texas: Henry Cuellar, incumbent running for re-election, who will win, or Kathy Castor in Florida or Marcy Kaptur in Ohio. Those are some races that really show you how gerrymandering has backfired for them. And then classic swing districts like AZ-06 in southern Arizona: Jo Mendoza, our candidate, running against Juan Ciscomani, there’s another race we’ll flip.”

“[W]hile Brian Fitzpatrick has run as a moderate, there are no moderates left in the Republican Party. What people want is a representative, not a rubberstamp. And they want folks who are going to stand up, and we haven’t seen any Republicans stand up to the damage that has been done. Bob Harvie is a public servant to this community, he is a native of Bucks County. I’ve been out seeing folks who are energized out knocking on doors. There’s huge enthusiasm here so we absolutely will flip this seat tomorrow.”

“Folks are turning out and voting. Early voting turnout has been high, far above midterm voting in 2022. There’s a lot of energy on the ground. So when you go across the country, as I have, you see that energy. When I was with Marcy Kaptur last week, folks waiting in line for early voting in Ohio, they were energized, they were excited, and felt a responsibility to make sure their voice is heard. So it’s a combination of all those pieces: great candidates, the data that we see, but definitely the energy that we see on the ground. People want folks who are going to stand up for them and want to make sure that the House of Representatives is the people’s house, not an arm of the administration.”

“[Republicans have] lost the hearts and minds of the American people. Republicans have had seemingly-infinite dollars out there and have been spending all across the country, but they have no message. Nothing. And so, when you take infinity times zero, you still get zero. That’s why it’s not making a difference. Having incredible candidates, which has been our secret sauce, talking about the issues that matter on the ground, people understanding that folks are fighting for them. That’s why we’re winning. And that’s why Leela Gray, who is running against Anna Paulina Luna, will win in Florida.”

[…]

“We have had the largest voter protection team at the DCCC that we’ve ever had. We have been prepared from the beginning because, let’s be clear, they started, at the beginning of the cycle, gerrymandering, attacking vote-by-mail, trying to kick legal voters off of the rolls, and we fought back and we have been successful fighting back. And we are prepared as we head into Election Day and after to continue to fight to make sure we have a free and fair election — and we will.”
