DCCC CHAIR LUJÁN RECOGNIZES ABIGAIL SPANBERGER AS PART OF ‘RED TO BLUE’ PROGRAM

Spanberger’s Addition to Battle-Tested Program Boosts Already Strong, Local Campaign

DCCC Chairman Ben Ray Luján today announced that former CIA operations officer and VA-07 Democratic nominee Abigail Spanberger has earned a spot on the DCCC’s highly competitive Red to Blue program. Spanberger joins other top-tier Democratic candidates across the country with this designation.

Despite facing a strong and well-funded Democratic challenger, Abigail Spanberger demonstrated her strength with a commanding first place finish in Virginia’s primary. Spanberger has worked hard in her district to earn a spot on Red to Blue by surpassing aggressive goals for grassroots engagement, local support, campaign organization and fundraising. Beyond her demonstrated abilities to build a winning campaign infrastructure, Spanberger has deep roots in the community and an inspiring, persuasive message about her commitment to service and putting her constituents first that helped propel her to a dominant win in a competitive Democratic primary.

“As a former intelligence officer Abigail Spanberger has already given a great deal to our country, but she isn’t done serving the people of Virginia yet,” said DCCC Chairman Ben Ray Luján. “Abigail’s run for Congress is rooted in her deep commitment to her community and her leadership has energized voters in truly exciting ways. With the tremendous momentum from her primary victory and a strong grassroots campaign, Abigail is ready to compete and win this suburban district.”

Red to Blue is a highly competitive and battle-tested program at the DCCC that arms top-tier candidates with organizational and fundraising support to help them continue to run strong campaigns. Additionally, the DCCC provides strategic guidance, staff resources, candidate trainings, and more. It is not an endorsement.

In 2018, the DCCC will make more targeted and frequent additions to the Red to Blue program than in previous election cycles.
