DCCC Chair Maloney’s Statement on International Women’s Day

DCCC Chair Sean Patrick Maloney issued the following statement in recognition of International Women’s Day:

“This International Women’s Day, we honor generations of trailblazing women who have moved our country, and our world, forward in the fight for women’s rights.

“So much progress still remains to be made to secure full equality and remove unfair obstacles women face in America today. Over 2.3 million women have been forced out of work as they’ve shouldered more than their share during this pandemic. House Democrats recognize the selfless sacrifices women make every day, and our Majority took bold action to provide relief for them and their families by passing President Biden’s American Rescue Plan. Additional economic relief, funding for women-owned small businesses, and a clear path to safely putting children back in school and workers back in jobs are on the way. Also, women in America today earn just 82 cents for every dollar their men counterparts make. This wage gap is unconscionable — we can and must do better. House Democrats will soon pass H.R. 7, the Paycheck Fairness Act, to provide further protections against the unjust discrimination and pay inequity that women regularly experience in the workplace.

“At the DCCC, we’re building a diverse team that reflects America; women represent 64% of our senior leadership team and 55% of our larger staff. Women should have a seat at any table where decisions are made and lifting up their voices — especially women of color — will continue to be a top priority as we prepare to reelect the 89 congresswomen in our caucus and recruit the candidates across our House battlefield who will strengthen Democrats’ Majority in 2022.”
