Each Black History Month we pause to recognize the Black Americans whose creativity, genius, ingenuity, and sacrifice has made our Union more perfect, even in its darkest moments.
This year, among many firsts, we celebrate the largest Congressional Black Caucus Membership in history, the first Black Secretary of Defense in General Loyd Austin, and the election of the first Black woman as Vice President of the United States of America. For all this country’s progress — better representation so that all of America is at the seat of power and an increasingly diverse movement that recognizes the value of all Black lives — we have so much more work to do.
My Democratic House colleagues and I are committed, far beyond this important month of recognition, to championing and lifting the causes, issues, and lives of Black Americans.
