| DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene released the following statement celebrating Labor Day:
“America is a country of workers, from the laborers who bore through mountains and pioneered the West, to the factories of Appalachia and the fields of the South. We work with our hands and our hearts, and we build with the collective conscience of a nation that always reaches taller, bigger, and better than ever before.
“Labor Day is about celebrating that spirit, and connecting a line between the great history of American labor and the everyday reality of workers today.
“Democrats must be a party that works for workers. That’s why our candidates don’t just promise to fight for working people, they are working people. They’re schoolteachers and smokejumpers, ER doctors and ironworkers. They’ve worked double shifts and bargained union contracts. They’ve come home with sweat and soot on their face and had to make dinner for their kids and buy groceries and balance a checkbook. And now, they’re running for Congress because they understand that the engine of the American economy is the factory floor, not the trading floor.
“Democrats will win the House Majority in November and get to work driving down costs, raising wages, and delivering workforce protections. We will continue to stand with organized labor, recognizing the extraordinary role unions play in securing the protections and benefits that make the American dream possible. And we will organize together to make people’s lives better, remembering that our history is a call to action, and that the American dream belongs to those who fight for it.” |
