DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene shared the following statement celebrating the beginning of Pride Month:
“This month we recognize the generations of activists who have fought tirelessly on behalf of the LGBTQI+ community, striving for a more inclusive society. As we celebrate the progress we have made so far, let us also recommit ourselves to doing the hard work necessary to reach a brighter tomorrow, fulfilling our nation’s promise of equality and dignity for all.
“While House Republicans continue to push far-right, extreme policies and espouse hateful language that targets the LGBTQI+ community, House Democrats proudly stand with the LGBTQI+ community, and against this hatred. When we retake the majority, we will invest in resources to combat hate crimes and address health disparities in the LGBTQI+ community. As true allies, we will pass the Equality Act.
“These legislative efforts are critical towards achieving our goal of fair treatment of all people – under our laws, from our courts, and in our politics. The work of delivering on the promise of our country – of liberty and justice for all – is rarely easy or smooth, but is always worth it. It is rooted in America’s foundational idea that we are all created equal, and deserve to be treated equally. So this month, as Americans wave their flags of pride high, let’s celebrate the great diversity of the American people, stand against prejudice everywhere, and recognize the achievements of the LGBTQI+ community. Happy Pride!”
