DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene released the following statement recognizing Martin Luther King Jr. Day:
“Today and every day, we strive to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy of perseverance and tireless advocacy for civil rights and equality in America, particularly for African-Americans. King showed us that our voice and our vote are powerful vehicles for change as we continue our fight against hatred and fear-mongering.
“Right now in our nation, we face far too many threats to our democracy – including Republican efforts to undermine free and fair elections. House Democrats remain steadfast in our commitment to preserving our democracy and fundamental freedoms, building upon King’s legacy to ensure that we achieve his dream of equal rights, justice, and economic opportunity for all. In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., ‘We must come to see that the end we seek is a society at peace with itself, a society that can live with its conscience.’”
