DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene released the following statement recognizing Martin Luther King Jr. Day:
“Martin Luther King Jr. fought to stem the tides of division, uplift the oppressed, and heal the scars of injustice by appealing to the better angels of our nature. He reminded us that America is not merely defined by what it promises, but by what it delivers. On this day, let us honor his legacy by remaining committed to that mission.
“Dr. King knew that progress was never guaranteed. He warned that it could be reversed whenever fear is given a megaphone and division is used as a political strategy. Today, as families struggle with rising costs and shrinking opportunities, we are reminded that principled leadership that puts service and people first matters. When hate is amplified, and when politicians choose convenience over courage, it becomes impossible to address the crises and challenges facing the American people.
“Guided by Dr. King’s dream, House Democrats remain dedicated to creating a better future for all. Families deserve to live in a country where economic opportunity is available to everyone, not just the wealthiest few. We will never stop fighting to make that a reality, and for government to be a tool for justice and improving people’s lives.”
