DCCC Chair Statement on 50 Year Anniversary of Roe v. Wade

The DCCC released the following statement from DCCC Chairwoman Suzan DelBene on the 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade:

“2023 marks the first time in 50 years that women will be unable to celebrate the anniversary of reproductive freedom being protected under federal law. Instead, women and families across the country are forced to bear the consequences of Republicans’ war on women.

“In the seven months since the Supreme Court’s conservative supermajority overturned Roe, women have fled their home states for health care, teenagers have been forced to give birth, and doctors and women faced possible criminal prosecution. In the face of this, House Republicans are continuing their efforts to restrict access to safe, legal abortion nationwide.

“Women deserve the freedom to make their own health care decisions. Today is a reminder that Republicans will stop at nothing to rip those rights away. Today is also a symbolic reminder of the freedom our country once had and a moment to recommit to our fight to enshrine the protections Roe once guaranteed into federal law.”
