Following the California legislature’s passage of a measure to put a new congressional map and temporary redistricting process before the voters in November to counter the Republican gerrymander in Texas, DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene released the following statement:
“House Democrats will not let House Republicans and Donald Trump steal the midterms. Republicans realize that voters have soured on their agenda of higher prices and broken promises, and are faced with the reality that the only way to win in 2026 is to rig the election.
“In holding a special election to ask the voters of California to decide on a new congressional map, California’s proposal stands in stark contrast to the Republicans’ shameless scheme in Texas. I applaud Governor Newsom and California lawmakers for taking responsible, responsive, and targeted actions to fight back against Republicans’ corrupt power grab.
“There is too much at stake to not fight back. Costs are rising. The American people are struggling. House Republicans have turned their back on working families, focusing instead on tax breaks for the wealthiest few. The DCCC is ready to fight anywhere to take back the majority so that the People’s House will again prioritize the people.”
